Week 3: Design Progress

This week, we started to look into more specific aspects of our design. In order to finalize our design, specific components need to be chosen. In order to choose the right component for our product, we made decision matrices to find the component that best fit our criteria.

This decision matrix is for choosing our motor, the weightage was determined by ranking the choice criteria against each other. Characteristics that were important to us were power, weight, cost, availability, and size.

After the characteristics of the motor were weighted against each other, our three choices for motors were ranked according to our criteria. We selected the motor with the highest score. We also used this process to select other parts including our battery.

As well as choosing some of our components for our product, we continued work on our project proposal and further fleshed out the design that we will be using in CAD. A sketch of the entire wheelchair was made, showing and labeling the parts attached. Along with this, the finishing touches were put on our proposal presentation.
